Henri Colt Back

Dr Henri Colt is an award-winning medical educator, writer and adventure traveller. He is the former chairman of the World Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, an association that grew from several hundred to more than 8000 members representing 55 different countries under his leadership. He has previously served on the Board of Regents of the American College of Chest Physicians and was a founding member of the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology, serving as the association’s President in 1999. He is the founder of the nonprofit Bronchoscopy International Foundation for the Advancement of Medicine and has personally conducted dozens of Faculty Development Train-the-Trainer courses for leaders in chest medicine on six continents. His multidimensional bronchoscopy curricula, including step-by-step technical skill training and assessment, has transformed existing education methodologies. Many of the curriculum’s components are included in competency-based subspecialty accreditation programs around the world.

Dr Colt has lived and travelled all over the world, spending his high school years in Southern France. He graduated from the University of Nice Medical School and went on to specialize in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care at the Universities of Pittsburgh, and Oregon Health Sciences. Until his retirement in 2012, Dr Colt was a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego and University of California, Irvine. An internationally-recognized opinion leader and pioneer in Interventional Pulmonology, Colt is the author of more than 200 original peer-reviewed scientific papers, review articles, numerous book chapters, and the best-selling textbook A Patient-Centered Approach to Central Airway Obstruction. His is also the author and editor of The Essential Bronchoscopist series of textbooks, and The Picture of Health: Medical Ethics and the Movies. His YouTube teaching videos have almost 1 million views, and his website www.Bronchoscopy.org is a stable of bronchoscopy education of global significance.

Henri has a background in medical ethics, medical anthropology, executive leadership, conflict resolution and mediation. He is the recipient of numerous international and national awards, honorary society memberships, and is also a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. A global nomad by nature, his hobbies include rock-climbing, tango, and mountaineering. From his home in Laguna Beach, California, however, he devotes some of his time to writing short stories and essays related to art and medical history.
